Sandiganbayan resets Estrada and Bonoan arraignment to June 30; three co-accused plead not guilty

The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division on Thursday, June 4, 2026 rescheduled the arraignment of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada and former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan to Monday, June 30, 2026 at 8:30 AM. The court cited pending motions to quash filed by both: Estrada's Urgent Omnibus Motion Ad Cautelam, lodged on June 1, 2026, and a separate motion to quash filed by Bonoan's counsel. Both motions challenge the plunder information at threshold and ask that the case either be dismissed or remanded to the Office of the Ombudsman for reinvestigation. Three co-accused former Bulacan DPWH district engineers, Edgardo "Denryl" Cortuna, Reynaldo "Manny" Bulusan, and Edmundo "Arturo" Gonzales Jr., were arraigned on the plunder count and entered not guilty pleas. Bonoan did not appear; the court ordered his counsel to file a fresh medical certificate documenting his fitness to attend or to submit grounds for continued hospital arrest. He has remained under hospital arrest at the PNP General Hospital since June 1, 2026 after a blood pressure reading of 192/100 at booking. Estrada appeared from the New Quezon City Jail Annex in Payatas.
